On Day 1 of the One Bridge Summer 2022 Bootcamp, students delved into learning about the fascinating interdisciplinary study of engineering and physics with an emphasis on solving complex, real-world problems!

One Bridge instructors taught students about core physics concepts, including Newton’s Laws, their diverse applications, and force diagrams. Lessons integrated physics content with critical thinking questions to test students’ understanding.

After a short break, the focus of the workshop shifted into one key application of physics in engineering, bridges. Students learned all about the basics of bridges and the 6 types of bridges. After learning these principles of bridge design, students utilized this knowledge to participate in an exciting Bridge Building Challenge, where partners worked together to build a bridge that would hold the most amount of weight given materials such as popsicle sticks, skewers, wood glue, etc. They had so much fun “bridging the divide in STEM education, building one bridge at a time!”

We had a blast seeing all the students’ magnificent bridges and testing the amount of weight each bridge could hold!
