Dr. Suresh Manthati, PhD, is the Associate Director at Astex Pharmaceuticals, specializing in the department of Drug Substance Discovery and Development. His job entails designing the medical and pharmaceutical drugs in the lab. In order to test the efficacy of the designed drugs, he creates an animal model for these diseases. His next step in the drug development process involves manufacturing them on an industrial scale in order to conduct a clinical trial on humans, which consists of three key phases. Identifying a cost-efficient process for commercialization and producing in large quantities to provide medicine to patients are critical steps in the process.
